Gina Update 080409

Hi, Gina!

While Judy and the others in the Machias Team have been over in Nepal I have had the words of this old hymn going through my mind.  I couldn’t remember all of the words but I also couldn’t find a book with the hymn in it …until today.  I really like the part about Chrxxtians all around the world being in prayer and praising the Lxxd as they arise from their night of rest and begin their new day.  While we are sleeping here they are praising Him in Nepal and vice versa as the world continues to turn bringing day after night.  Anyway, always thinking about what time it is where Judy and the others are made me remember this old hymn.  I thought you might enjoy the words too.

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
The darkness falls at Thy behest;
To Thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank Thee that Thy church, unsleeping,
While earth rolls onward into light,
Through all the world her watch is keeping,
And rests not now by day or night.

As o’er each continent and island
The dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,
Nor dies the strain of praise away.

The sun that bids us rest is waking
Our brethren ’neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are making
Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never,
Like earth’s proud empires, pass away:
Thy kingdom stands, and grows forever,
Till all Thy creatures own Thy sway.

Thank you so very much for sending this. It was so moving and I agree, it truly pertains to the big picture of missions as we know it. Amazing how words that were written a very long time ago could be so applicable many years later. Some things never change.  So nice to receive this since it’s almost 12 AM and I’m still awake monitoring conditions in Nepal and such. We continue to attempt to find rest in knowing that the Machias Group was not able to make it to Jomsom as planned and as a result have not been able to fulfill many individual and group aspirations. This has been heartbreaking to say the least. I know that I’ve said it before but am saying it again, and will most likely reiterate it in the future. Two verses come to mind:

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12)

“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Now the task at hand is to continue to apply this directive from God to every aspect of our expectation-filled lives. I can honestly say that it seems that at 44 years of age, I’m just finally able to make a bit of headway in understanding this and I still have a very long way to go.  Sweet dreams.
